Scale's Commitment to Empower the Next Generation with AI Literacy

Scale is committed to building a brighter, stronger future for America by improving the AI literacy level of students and teachers across America. We believe AI can be a tool for creativity, problem solving, and discovery, whether that means addressing local challenges, sparking curiosity in the classroom, or opening doors to future opportunities. That’s why today, we are proud to share Scale’s commitment to advancing AI literacy and expanding access to AI learning for educators and students nationwide.
Through direct support, partnerships, and hands-on programming, Scale is committed to:
-
Upskilling as many as 1,000 U.S. teachers by 2029;
-
Empowering as many as 500,000 U.S. students with basic AI skills; and
-
Hosting a combination of annual AI hackathons and coding classes for K-12 students.
These efforts reflect our belief that AI education must be part of a modern curriculum and experienced in every classroom. Whether a student is studying art, science, language, or computer science, each deserves the opportunity to explore and apply AI in ways that bring their interests to life and prepare them for the future.
Why It Matters
In June 2025, Scale was honored to join the White House’s “Pledge to American Youth,” a national commitment to ensure K-12 schools are ready for the age of AI. This pledge aligns with our mission to ensure AI remains human-centered – serving the public good, strengthening our national security, and supporting everyday Americans.
Investing in AI literacy isn’t just a “nice to have” – it’s a necessity. As AI becomes embedded in industries from manufacturing to medicine, we recognize our responsibility to help prepare the next generation to harness this power for the benefit of our communities. The next generation of students must be inspired, teachers supported, and communities equipped to ensure America's technological leadership and maintain its strategic advantage.
Where We’re Starting
We’re excited to make our initial investment in Missouri – a state we’ve proudly partnered with to drive AI and support innovation, national security, and workforce development opportunities.
Over the next four years, Scale will expand and strengthen local AI education efforts by:
-
Supporting organizations that teach coding and computer science to America’s youth;
-
Partnering with school districts in the St. Louis region - home to Scale AI's state-of-the-art AI Center, a 250-person AI Training Center located in the historic Post Building that supports the critical data needs of the U.S. Government - to co-host events and skill-building sessions in St. Louis and elsewhere;
-
Developing new AI learning tools and shaping AI Literacy curriculum for students and teachers; and
-
Hosting career day presentations and hands-on AI demos that show students how they can work with and in the field of AI, regardless of their background or interests.
We want to demonstrate that AI isn’t just for coders – it’s a tool that can amplify every student’s unique interests and ambitions. Whether students are passionate about French, chemistry, or art history, there’s a role for students in building an AI-powered future that reflects human creativity and values. Scale’s early programming and work on AI literacy in the St. Louis region will serve as a blueprint for expanding our impact nationwide.
Looking Ahead: Scaling Across the U.S.
After we kick off our commitment in Missouri, we will scale our efforts in other cities and states – in partnership with local school systems, nonprofit organizations, state and local government, and community stakeholders. In every location, our focus will be on building long-term partnerships that increase access to AI education and support teachers and students.
As AI continues to shape the next chapter of American innovation, Scale is committed to investing in students, supporting teachers, and equipping communities to succeed with AI.
This is just the beginning. Scale is committed to continuing this work with students, teachers, and communities so that AI literacy becomes a cornerstone of opportunity for the next generation.
