Rapid: Duplicating a Studio Project for Labeling with Scale's Annotators

One powerful capability of starting your data annotation journey with Scale Studio is that you can choose to convert a Studio project (i.e., annotated using your own workforce) to a Rapid project (i.e., annotate with Scale's workforce) instead.

The team is building out a one-click functionality to convert a Studio project into a Rapid project.

In the meantime, it's still quite straightforward to mirror a Studio project onto the Rapid platform. This guide will show you step-by-step how to do so.

Creating a Rapid Project

Use the project dropdown menu in the panel on the left to create a new project. When you create a new project, you can choose to create a Rapid project, or a Studio project. Select Rapid project.

Enter whatever name you prefer for the project name, and make sure you set the project type to be the same as the project you are hoping to mirror on the Studio side.

In the Data panel, select Previous Project from the drop-down on the top right. Then, select the project you'd like to import data from.

After the data loads, you can choose to supplement with additional data if you so choose later, or via the "Add Data" button on the top right.

Next comes the taxonomy setup.

  • In the project selection panel, navigate back to the Studio project that you're looking to mirror.
  • Select Definition from the left panel, then select Taxonomy.
  • In the taxonomy editor, toggle JSON in the panel on the right. Select all the JSON in the panel, and copy it (Ctrl + C on PC, Cmd + C on Mac).
  • In the project selection panel, navigate back to the Rapid project you're in the midst of creating.
  • Select Definition from the left panel, then select Taxonomy.
  • In the taxonomy editor, toggle JSON in the panel on the right. Delete the current JSON, and paste in your copied JSON (Ctrl + V on PC, Cmd + V on Mac).
  • Click the Update Preview button on the bottom right.
  • Click the Save Changes button on the bottom right.
  • Click the Back link on the top left.

Lastly is task instructions. Similarly to taxonomy above, you will be copy and pasting the instructions from your Studio project.

  • In the project selection panel, navigate back to the Studio project that you're looking to mirror.
  • Select Definition from the left panel, then select Task instructions.
  • Select all (Ctrl + A on PC, Cmd + A on Mac) and copy it (Ctrl + C on PC, Cmd + C on Mac).
  • In the project selection panel, navigate back to the Rapid project you're in the midst of creating.
  • Select Definition from the left panel, then select Task instructions.
  • Select all (Ctrl + A on PC, Cmd + A on Mac) and paste it (Ctrl + V on PC, Cmd + V on Mac).
  • Click the Save button on the top right.
  • Click the Back link on the top left.

That's it! You've duplicated a Studio project onto the Rapid platform. Subsequent steps such as running a calibration batch and launching a production batch can be found in the Rapid documentation (step 2 onwards): https://scale.com/docs/getting-started-rapid
