San Francisco, CA (Aug. 25, 2025) &mdash; The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), through the Army Contracting Command at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Adelphi, MD, has awarded Scale AI a $99 million contract to advance research and development services that will accelerate the Army&rsquo;s adoption of artificial intelligence.&nbsp;
By combining cutting-edge technology with deep mission understanding, Scale is helping the DoD operationalize AI across critical defense mission sets.&nbsp;
&ldquo;This award builds on Scale AI&rsquo;s close partnership with the Pentagon and underscores the importance of rapidly adopting AI to strengthen national security,&rdquo; said Dan Tadross, Head of Public Sector, Scale AI. &ldquo;We look forward to delivering AI-powered solutions that help give the U.S. military a decisive competitive edge.&rdquo;
Under the contract, Scale AI will support:

Data operations: computer vision data labeling and annotation, generative AI dataset creation, model development and improvement, and testing and evaluation.

Platforms and tooling: Scale&rsquo;s Data Engine, Generative AI Platform, and Donovan.

<li dir="ltr" aria-level="1">
Engineering support: technical expertise to accelerate AI integration across Army missions.
</li>

This award continues Scale AI&rsquo;s expanding collaboration with DoD, which includes a prime contract from the <a href="https://scale.com/blog/thunderforge-ai-for-american-defense">Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) for Thunderforge</a>, the DoD&rsquo;s flagship program to leverage AI for U.S. military planning and operations. Scale was also selected by the<a href="https://scale.com/blog/scale-dod-contract-data-curation-joint-force"> DoD&rsquo;s Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO)</a> to advance the Department&rsquo;s AI capabilities, and supports U.S. Government defense missions through Scale&rsquo;s AI Center <a href="https://scale.com/stl">in St. Louis,</a> Missouri.
