Over the past week, we&rsquo;ve received thoughtful questions from our customers, partners, and contributors, asking whether Meta&rsquo;s investment will affect our independence, operations, and relationships.&nbsp;
Let us be clear: Scale remains an independent company. Unlike other recent deals in the AI space, Scale is not integrating our business operations with Meta. Scale will not provide Meta with access to Scale internal systems or to our customers&rsquo; confidential information. And while the agreement will extend Meta&rsquo;s commercial relationship with Scale, that relationship will include the same protections&mdash;and restrictions&mdash;that apply to other Scale customers.
Scale and the Board are steadfastly dedicated to operating with the utmost integrity. Alex will continue to support Scale&rsquo;s mission as a member of the company's Board of Directors, and is committed to doing so in compliance with best practices of corporate governance. This includes a clear understanding of his fiduciary duty to Scale, its employees, investors and customers. Like any outside director of Scale, Alex will not be involved in day-to-day company management or operations, including any customer or contributor operations. Further, he, like all our directors and employees, will continue to be required to safeguard confidential information related to Scale's operations and customers and protect against any improper disclosure. Our conflict of interest guidelines and protections include recusal to manage potential conflicts, including conflicts around exposure to confidential or competitively sensitive information.
Ensuring customer trust has been and will always be a top priority for Scale. We continue to provide robust technical and policy safeguards to protect customers' confidential information. Nothing has changed about our commitment to protecting customer data.&nbsp;

What Meta’s Investment Means for Our Customers, Partners, and Contributors

Scale recently had the privilege of hosting the second Joint Cyber Defense Collaborative (JCDC) Artificial Intelligence Cyber Tabletop Exercise (TTX) at our new Global Headquarters in San Francisco. This event, organized by the <a href="https://www.cisa.gov/">Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA)</a>, brought together more than 90 experts from government and industry to explore how we can collectively address the unique challenges of AI security. It was an inspiring opportunity to collaborate with some of the brightest minds in cybersecurity and help shape the future of AI incident response.
Public-private partnerships are essential to tackle emerging threats quickly in ways that minimize impact and risk. The diversity of participants and perspectives, including representatives from the U.S. government, financial sector, tech, and leading AI companies, is what made this exercise so impactful because no single organization can solve these complex challenges alone.&nbsp;
AI security is not just about building safe models&mdash;it involves securing every layer of AI integration, from model development to deployment into existing technology systems. At Scale, we recognize that effective AI security begins with a comprehensive development life cycle. This life cycle includes safety measures during AI model pre-training as well as post-training activities like Test and Evaluation. Both of these ultimately focus on the underlying security of the model itself. The outermost layers&mdash;where we integrate model inference and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) into traditional technology and data systems&mdash;must be protected to ensure comprehensive security controls for AI. This is where traditional cybersecurity has the most to contribute towards securing the AI future.&nbsp;
Using what we&rsquo;ve learned over the last several decades, <a href="https://csrc.nist.gov/glossary/term/defense_in_depth">defense-in-depth</a> principles can be applied to AI-enabled technologies in ways that allow rapid adoption and transformation. A key part of those traditional security controls focuses on monitoring, detection, and incident response to emerging and previously unknown vulnerabilities. The JCDC.AI TTX allowed us to engage in meaningful conversations about these challenges, brainstorm best practices, and raise our collective understanding of how to ensure societal trust in AI-enabled systems. <a href="https://www.cisa.gov/topics/partnerships-and-collaboration/joint-cyber-defense-collaborative/Joint-Cyber-Defense-Collaborative-Artificial-Intelligence-Cyber-Tabletop-Exercise-Series">Following the first TTX, </a>CISA Director Jen Easterly said, "This exercise marks another step in our collective commitment to reducing the risks posed by AI. It also highlights the importance of developing and delivering AI products that are designed with security as the top priority."

This authorization allows Scale&rsquo;s cutting-edge machine learning (ML) platform and large language models (LLMs) access to defense applications with controlled unclassified information (CUI), such as personally identifying information, empowering the DoD with advanced AI capabilities to accelerate information accessibility. Scale is currently the only dedicated AI provider with IL-4 provisional authorization, underscoring its commitment to providing secure solutions for the U.S. government.&nbsp;

DISA, a combat support agency of the U.S. Department of Defense, is responsible for developing and maintaining the DoD Cloud Computing Security Requirements Guide (SRG). The Cloud Computing SRG defines the security requirements used by the DoD to assess the security posture of cloud service offerings, enabling cloud service providers (CSPs) to host DoD missions after receiving provisional authorization.&nbsp;

This designation indicates that Scale is on track to achieving a FedRAMP authorized product within the next 12 months.&nbsp;The AI Data platform is seeking authorization at the FedRAMP High Impact Level, enabling Scale AI to support the U.S. government’s most sensitive data and missions.&nbsp; Scale serves customers of all sizes across a wide range of industries. Reaching this milestone on the path to authorization is invaluable to Scale’s ability to enable federal, state and local governments in the adaptation of AI applications.&nbsp; FedRAMP is the U.S. Government’s standardized approach to providing security authorizations for the adoption and use of cloud services by the federal government. Achieving compliance with SOC 2 Type II requires Scale to demonstrate its compliance with the service commitments and system requirements in the Security Trust Services Category.
